The flag of South Vietnam was a yellow field with three horizontal red stripes in the center. The stripes represented the three regions of Vietnam: the north, central, and south. The yellow field symbolized unity and sovereignty, while the red stripes represented the blood of Vietnamese soldiers who fought and died for the country's independence.
The flag was adopted in 1948, during the First Indochina War between France and Vietnam. It served as the national flag of South Vietnam from 1954 until the fall of Saigon in 1975.
After the fall of South Vietnam, the flag was no longer used. Today, it is mainly seen in use by Vietnamese-American communities and as a symbol of opposition to the current government of Vietnam.
